Came across this little beauty on a recent job!

It looks like a previous electrician needed an extra switch wire and decided to get a bit creative with the wiring already there.

I suppose running a new cable wasn’t on the agenda that day! 😂

You’ve got to admire the ingenuity of some of the old-school sparkies. They certainly had their own ways of doing things, and some of the stuff you come across in older properties really does make you wonder what was going through their heads at the time.

To be fair, some of the older electrical work we see is absolutely spot on, but then you find something like this!

Obviously, electrical regulations and safety standards have moved on quite a bit over the years, and this isn’t something we’d be doing today.

Still, it gave us a laugh. You never quite know what you’re going to find when you start taking things apart!

Keeping Busy at SLE Electrical

We’ve also been pretty busy recently with a good mixture of electrical work across Hailsham, Eastbourne and the surrounding areas.

Quite a few consumer unit replacements, bringing older fuse boards up to date, along with smoke alarm upgrades, EICR inspections and testing, and EV charger installations.

We’ve also had the usual selection of electrical faults, lighting alterations and smaller jobs thrown in for good measure.

It’s always nice having a bit of variety, although hopefully the next light switch we remove will be slightly less interesting than this one!
