At SLE Electrical Services in Hailsham, we recently attended an emergency call-out that could have ended very differently. A homeowner noticed a faint burning smell and crackling noise coming from under their kitchen cabinet. Acting fast, they turned the power off — and thankfully, their RCD had already tripped, cutting power to the fault before things got worse.
When we arrived, we found a loose connection in a spur socket under the units that had started to arc and spark, melting insulation and charring the back box. Thanks to the customer’s quick reaction and a modern RCD-protected consumer unit, a potential fire was completely avoided.
We replaced the damaged wiring, tested the circuit, and carried out a full safety inspection to ensure everything else was sound.
